Derek Ives-Plunkett - devisor/founding member
Derek was an extraordinary contemporary circus performer. Co-founder of WE3 and original devisor/creator/performer of The Long Pigs. Also a founder, performer, rigger and director of Rock ’n’ Roll Circus (now Circa). He worked nationally and internationally as a director including Cirque Cirkor, The Candy Butchers (Melbourne Fringe Award 2007, Best Production), On Wild Duck (Comedy Festival Critic’s Choice nominee), and Ireland’s Tumbe Circus (Perth Fringe Award, Best Circus Show 2012). He was Tumble Circus’s resident director in France at La Fountinaeau, centre for the Development of Street Performance in Brest. In 2011 and 2012 Derek was Circus Oz Associate Director. He also worked at NICA implementing safety systems, and circus directing.
“Such an unconventional style and quest for the wilfully weird could so easily have made for a painful hour of art-school pretentiousness, but with Wild Duck’s talent, pizzazz and eye for a great gag, it becomes a wildly funny experience unlike any other.” (Chortle.com)
Derek is greatly missed by the circus and clown community around the world and by his fellow Long Piggies.
